Linda Taylor received a fond farewell today as she prepares for retirement at the end of the month.

Halifax County Board of Commissioners Chairman James Pierce presented Taylor, an assistant county manager, with a resolution that acknowledged her accomplishments since starting with the county in June of 1975.

“The responsibilities undertaken by Ms. Taylor were extensive,” the resolution said. “She accomplished them with exceptional skill and efficiency, while administering the finances of the county in the most professional manner which brings great credit to both her and Halifax County.”

The document notes that Taylor and the finance office have been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for 14 straight years.

The report, according to the resolution, is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting and is awarded by the Government Finance Officers Association.

“Ms. Taylor demonstrated leadership, wisdom, creativity and community spirit and has served on many boards, commissions and authorities, exhibiting sound judgment and concern for the finances, health, safety, welfare, tourism and economic development to improve Halifax County's unique quality of life.”

The resolution continues with the board's praise for her work.

“We're wishing you a long, healthy retirement,” Pierce said before giving Taylor the microphone.

“I'm fighting hard not to fall apart,” she said, choking back tears. “I just want to thank everyone for their support of the finance department. They're one in a million.”
