Brothers charged in scrap metal theft

Two brothers were charged today for allegedly selling scrap metal stolen in Northampton County to a Halifax County scrap metal plant.

Detective Chris Scott of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office said in a statement Lionel and Thomas Martin, both of Halifax, were charged with attempted obtain property by false pretense, obtain property by false pretense and possession of stolen goods.

The charges, Scott said, are based on an investigation by Deputy Matt Brown, where an assortment of metals were stolen and then sold to a recycling plant.

They each received $5,000 bonds and await a December 18 court date.
