A Gaston man has been arrested and the Halifax County Sheriff's Office is seeking another in the theft of blankets from the Oasis on Highway 903.

Three blankets, with a total value of more than $100, were stolen from the store in November and again in December, according to Detective J.M. Clark. It is unclear of the motive.

The investigation began earlier this week when Clark was alerted to the thefts by management.

Clark obtained warrants for the arrest of 26-year-old Matthew Brian Manthe, who was arrested today as he gave someone a ride to the store.

Manthe was charged with two counts of larceny, two counts of possession of stolen goods and one count of conspiracy to commit larceny.

He was jailed on $5,000 bond pending a January 22 court date.

The sheriff's office continues to look for and seeks the identity of a second person allegedly involved, who can been seen behind Manthe in the surveillance photos.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the sheriff's office at 252-583-8201 or Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
