“They're all ice-covered,” said Sergeant J.C. Goins. “DOT is trying to get the roads scraped, but they're bad. We're encouraging people to not go out unless they have to.”
Goins said there is no tally at this moment on the number of wrecks troopers have responded to since snow began falling early Tuesday night.
There is no chance of a meltdown today as temperatures are supposed to stay below freezing today. “It's not gong to melt right now,” Goins said. “DOT has an enormous task. It's just ice. It's not going to melt.”
The winter storm system has forced the closure of numerous schools, including Halifax Community College, Weldon City Schools and Roanoke Rapids within the last few hours.
