With spring break coming for the three school systems in the county, the sheriff's office is encouraging motorists to exercise more caution than normal.

“Drivers traditionally become accustomed to students being in school during school hours,” Sheriff Wes Tripp said in a statement, “and, with the change in weather, we can count on students being on the streets and parking lots. Please be aware of young people crossing streets, walking out from in between cars, or other barriers such as fencing or shrubbery.”

Conversely, the sheriff said, “We would encourage parents to remind children or young adults, to pay attention to traffic.”

The spring schedule is as follows:

Halifax County School April 18 through 25.

Weldon City Schools begins with a half-day on April 18 and the break ends on April 25.

Roanoke Rapids City Schools are out April 14 through 21.
