Enfield police are investigating a shooting into an occupied vehicle that occurred Monday evening, as well as an assault that occurred in the same area earlier.

No one was injured in the shooting where bullets struck two sport utility vehicles and the front steps of a house at 210 Bell Street.

Lieutenant Jerry Powell said the victim in the physical assault has not come forward and witnesses would not provide a name.

Whether the shooting stems from the assault is unknown at this time.

The shooting occurred shortly before 9 p.m. as the victim was sitting in his SUV and heard three shots hit the passenger side of the vehicle. It was struck three times. A second SUV was hit once and the steps of the house hit once.

Powell said the victim in the shooting could not say whether someone walked up and began shooting or whether it was a drive-by.

As police were investigating the shooting, Powell said two people came up looking for the physical assault victim's wallet, but declined to the tell investigators the victim's name.

Powell said Bell Street is becoming a hotspot for criminal activity in Enfield. “I'm not sure why it has become attractive at the moment.”

Anyone with information is encouraged to call Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444. The crime tip line is anonymous and a reward is possible.
