The side of the Rosemary Mill. The side of the Rosemary Mill.

The county is set to begin marketing the former WestPoint Stevens building, Halifax Development Commission Executive Director Cathy Scott told commissioners at their meeting today.

It will also begin pitching the Flambeau plant, which is set to close by June 30, Scott said.

The news comes after the county signed a marketing agreement with the current owner of what was the Rosemary Mill.

The owner wants to get $4.4 million for the building, Scott said. It is listed on the county tax books at $3.8 million.

“We are commencing due diligence to determine what buildings are useable,” Scott said of the former Rosemary Mill.

“It's a huge facility,” she said following the meeting. “We've got a lot of due diligence on what is truly marketable.”

Meanwhile, Scott said the county has pitched the Flambeau building to 30 of the country's top plastic companies and has two trade shows coming up where the plant will be marketed. “We're using every means we can to get the word out.”

In another matter today the county recognized the retirements of Dianne Hamby and Anna Bryant.

Commissioner Rachel Hux, right, reads Hamby's retirement resolution.

Hamby retired at the beginning of this month as maintenance supervisor II with the Department of Social Services after a 31-year career.

Commissioner Vernon Bryant reads Anna Bryant's resolution.

Bryant retired as a tax listing clerk II within the tax department after a 25-year career at the first of the month.
