A Roanoke Rapids man has been sentenced to 100 months in federal prison on drug and gun charges, according to United States Attorney Thomas G. Walker.

Jermaine Jones, 30, was sentenced today in Raleigh by U.S. District Judge Terrence W. Boyle. He must also serve five years of supervised release.

Jones, who was arrested March of last year after a pound of marijuana was seized from his Radar Circle house, was named in an indictment filed on December 17, 2013, in the Eastern District of North Carolina, charging him with one count of possession of a firearm by a felon and one count of possession with the intent to distribute a quantity of marijuana. On March 5 of this year, he pled guilty to those charges.

According to the investigation, the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office discovered that Jones pawned a firearm on April 26, 2012, at a pawn shop located in Roanoke Rapids.

Additionally, on March 28, 2013, deputies, with the assistance of other law enforcement agencies, intercepted and executed a controlled delivery of a package addressed to him in Roanoke Rapids, which contained 439.81 grams of marijuana.

Investigation of this case was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office, the Roanoke Rapids Police Department, the Nash CountyNarcotics Division, Nash County Sheriff’s Office, and the Wilson Police Department.

Assistant United States Attorney S. Katherine Burnette prosecuted the case for the government.
