Speed and possible alcohol use are believed to be contributing factors in a crash that claimed the life of a Littleton man Sunday morning.

An initial report by Trooper T.D. “Bo” Forsht of the state Highway Patrol indicates that William Torain Jr. was traveling on Faulcon Road, about a mile south of Highway 158 in the Littleton area when the crash occurred shortly before 1:15 a.m.

Torain was traveling north when he crossed the center line of the road and went off to the left, striking a concrete ditch culvert. The car overturned and came to an uncontrolled rest where it caught on fire.

It was unclear whether the man was wearing a seatbelt and unclear whether he was ejected or managed to crawl out of the vehicle following the crash.

His estimated travel speed was 70 miles per hour in a 55 miles per hour zone.

A test is pending to determine alcohol use.
