According to an initial report by Trooper D.P. Efird of the state Highway Patrol, Thomas Winborne, 44, was traveling east on the highway in the Hobgood area shortly after 2:15 a.m.
His vehicle went off the road to the left and he overcorrected, which caused the car to go off the road to the right. The vehicle struck an embankment, causing it to roll over and strike a tree on the passenger side.
