“I'm overwhelmed,” he said after Judge Alma Hinton administered the oath. “I started this path over 30 years ago as jailer and worked every department in the sheriff's office.”
His goal as he takes office is to look at how to help the county's children become safer.. “We have children killing children.”
He referred to a spate of murders in the summer and fall where the alleged suspects were teenagers and a teen and infant were the victims. He said he plans to work with numerous agencies to tackle the matter, including the faith-based community. “We will be working hard to find answers to save our most precious commodity and that's our children.”
He said he also planning another gang awareness summit in April.
