Antonio Johnson, 38, who has a lengthy criminal history, is considered armed and dangerous and has a past history of assaulting officers, Lieutenant Jerry Powell said in a statement.
Investigation of the case began when Officer Michael Horner was on patrol on North Martin Luther King Avenue and encountered a 38-year-old male victim who was bleeding profusely from multiple stab wounds lacerations on much of his upper body and head.
Powell said this evening it has not been determined how many times the victim was stabbed.
The victim was placed in the care of Halifax EMS and was later treated for the injuries received and released.
Investigation took Horner and Officer Tina Rojas to a residence on East Bryant Street where the assault occurred.
With assistance from Halifax County Sheriff's Office deputies, officers learned that Johnson had allegedly been at the residence along with the victim and several others when an argument began that eventually became physical. The subject of the argument was not immediately known, Powell said.
Johnson reportedly pulled out a sharp-edged instrument and began to stab and cut the victim.
A warrant has been filed for Johnson's arrest for assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.
Powell said Johnson typically frequents the South Dennis Street area of Enfield and anyone who sees him should not approach him, but call 911.
