RRPD blotter: March 3-9

The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Chuck Hasty:

March 3

Around 3 p.m., Investigator Frankie Griffin arrested Rodney Davis Jr., 21, of Petersburg, Virginia, for two counts of obtaining property by false pretense; conspiracy; attempting to obtain property by a false pretense; forgery of an instrument and possessing a counterfeit instrument-currency.

Griffin began the investigation in November when several businesses reported that they had received counterfeit bills in return for goods or services.

Griffin was able to identify Semaja Marquan Prine and Sidney Moody, both 19 and both of Garysburg.

They were arrested on November 19 on the same charges that Davis faces.

Davis was given a $2,000 bond and a court date of March 18.

March 4

Around 3 p.m., Investigative Lieutenant Charles Vaught and Griffin arrested Kirby Lamont Arrington, 37, of Roanoke Rapids on outstanding warrants from the Emporia Police Department.

Arrington allegedly cashed counterfeit checks in Emporia, according to investigators with the Emporia Police Department.

Ahoskie police are also investigating Arrington for the same type of crimes.

Arrington was given a $100,000 bond and a court date of March 18 or extradition back to Virginia.

March 5

Officer Jeffery Mason responded to Walmart twice for larcenies.

Around 11a.m., he spoke with loss prevention about Lionel Maurice Martin, 31, of Roanoke Rapids, who had taken items from the store.

Mason arrested and charged Martin with larceny, possession of stolen goods and resist, delay and obstruct an officer.

There was also an outstanding order for arrest served on Martin from Northampton County.

Martin was given a $3,500 bond for the Halifax County charges and a March 24 court date. He was given a $1,000 bond for the Northampton County charges with an April 27 court date.

Around 5 p.m., Mason responded back to Walmart for another larceny and learned Angelina Towonda Sessoms, 35, of Littleton had taken items without paying for them.

Mason arrested and charged Sessoms with larceny and possession of stolen goods, She was given a $3,000 bond and March 27 court date.

Saturday

Around 1 a.m., Lieutenant Perry Parks was working an off-duty assignment at Applebee’s when he arrested and charged Denise Lorraine Stump, 44, of Courtland, Virginia, with intoxicated and disruptive behavior and trespassing.

Stump was at the bar when she began cursing and causing a disturbance.

Parks asked Stump to leave the premises several times before arresting her.

She received a $1,000 bond and a one day contempt from the magistrate because of her actions while being processed.

She has a March 20 court date.

Around 1 a.m., Deputy Chief Andy Jackson was working an off-duty assignment at Hux’s Billiard’s in the Forest Hills Shopping Center when there was a disturbance in the parking lot.

Jackson saw Daniel Christopher Durham, 31, of Roanoke Rapids, standing in front of a vehicle cursing at the driver and then run toward the driver.

There was a physical confrontation between the two and Jackson ordered them to stop fighting.

When he tried to arrest him, Durham refused to be handcuffed.

Jackson eventually charged Durham with simple assault and resist, delay and obstruct an officer.

Durham was given a $1,000 bond and a court date of April 10.

Master Officer Chris Babb and Officer Matt Hunsucker assisted Jackson in the arrest.

Around 2 a.m,, Officer Patrick Smith responded to a call about a vehicle in the roadway at Julian R. Allsbrook Highway and Old Farm Road.

Smith spoke with Kedrian Bynum, 21, of Roanoke Rapids, and determined the man was impaired.

Smith arrested Bynum for DWI and during a search of the vehicle a gun was recovered.

He was also charged with carrying a concealed weapon and released to a responsible party.

He has an April 13 court date.

Sunday

Around 9 p.m., officers responded to a shots fired call in the 100 block of Madison Street.

Officer Gerald Morris was in the area when someone reported they were pistol-whipped.

Morris contacted EMS to treat the victim, who was transported.

An investigation was conducted and Sharon Denise Bynum, 47, of Roanoke Rapids was arrested and charged by Baggett for assault with a deadly weapon, assault by pointing a gun and resist, delay and obstruct an officer,

Bynum was given a $5,000 bond and a court date of May 8.

Babb and Hunsucker assisted.

Today

Around 12:30 a.m. Babb responded to a disturbance call in the 100 block of Madison Street.

He spoke with Katrina Yolanda Wyche, 34, of Roanoke Rapids.

Wyche was causing a disturbance and refused to leave when asked by Babb.

Wyche was arrested and charged with resist, delay and obstruct an officer.

She was given a $200 bond and an April 10 court date.

Baggett and Hunsucker assisted.

Around 2:30 p.m., the City County Drug Task Force executed a search warrant at a Monroe Street residence in Roanoke Rapids.

During the search, a user amount of marijuana was seized.

Viola People Day. 62, of Roanoke Rapids, was charged with possessing marijuana.by task force Lieutenant H.G. Phillips and given an April 22 court date.

Phillips investigated the residence because of citizen complaints, surveillance and other investigative means.
