There is no effort to enact a parks and recreation tax in Halifax County, officials said today and Monday.

Commissioners accept recreation plan

The county now has a recreation master plan and commissioners will begin the process of appointing an advisory board of citizens across Halifax County who will make recommendations to them.

A draft recreation master plan will most likely not be presented to Halifax County commissioners in September as stakeholders this evening expressed concern more time was needed to study the proposal.

Final recreation plan workshop set

The final workshop to gather public input on the proposed comprehensive parks and recreation master plan has been scheduled for Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Halifax County Agricultural Center Auditorium located at 359 Ferrell Lane in Halifax.

The biggest recommendation coming out of a series of public workshops, phone surveys and workshops with area high school student is that Halifax County should consider establishing a parks and recreation department to better serve the needs of its citizens.
