A deputy answering one call on Walston Street Friday made a drug arrest after he smelled the odor of marijuana coming from a house across the street from the original call.
When Deputy J.M. Clark went to investigate he discovered powdered cocaine and marijuana at the house, according to Sergeant Randy Keeton of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.
Clark charged Marvin Lewis Peters of Roanoke Rapids for felony possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was jailed on $5,000 bond and has an August 25 court date.
Halifax County Manager Tony Brown says attorneys are working on an agreement with Weldon schools.
Weldon will exercise its option to buy the old Weldon grist mill if its owner doesn’t address violations noted in a July 8 letter from its town attorney.
Representative Michael H. Wray reminded his constituents to take advantage of the state’s sales tax holiday, which starts at 12:01 am on Friday and ends at 11:59 pm on Sunday.
