The Davie Volunteer Fire Department should be in its new station by late fall, according to Chief David Padgett.
“We definitely need additional space,” the chief said Friday. “The building we’ve got is almost 50 years old.”
Padgett said the department is storing three fire trucks in a bay made for two and has limited parking.
Davie, behind the Rheasville Volunteer Fire Department, is one of the oldest volunteer departments in the area — the Davie department started when a need was seen to have two departments, one for Highway 158 and one for Highway 48.
“We still work together. We’re real close,” Padgett said. “They’re kind of like brothers to us.”
The new fire station is located about a mile west from the current station on Highway 158. An open house will be planned after relocation.
