Roanoke Rapids women soccer player Harley Shearin will be representing North Carolina in soccer.
She has been selected for the US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program (ODP) Region III Girls 2014 Regional Camp that will take place at the University of Montevallo in Alabama July 11-15, 2014.
The US Youth Soccer is divided into four regions, each which offers a regional camp for US Youth Soccer ODP State Association teams in each eligible age group. The camps are designed to provide high-level competition and training for participating players. During this training and competition, players who are capable of performing at a higher level of play are identified for possible national team camp, pool or team participation.
The primary mission is to identify elite level Region III (11 States) players and facilitate their selection to the U.S. National Team programs. The primary benefit to the player is to be able to try out, train and play against the best players in their age group, allowing the best players to further their development as soccer players.
The selection process takes place through state, regional and national trials and started for Shearin back in November of 2013 when Roanoke Rapids head coach Craig Jean started some one on one training with Shearin and then in December out of over 150 players she advanced and practiced between December and June in Greensboro with players eliminated after each practice until the final team was selected for Region III.
