Halifax Community College proudly announces the appointment of Dr. Levy Brown as the new vice president of academic, student success, and strategy, effective July 1, 2025.

Dr. Brown brings nearly 24 years of experience in public higher education, with a distinguished career that spans both North Carolina and Connecticut.

A highly engaged, strategic, and inclusive leader, Dr. Brown is recognized for his visionary approach to education, his collaborative leadership style, and his commitment to student success.

He has a strong record of working alongside faculty, students, staff, senior administrators, industry partners, and government officials to create transformative outcomes for students and communities alike.

Most recently, Dr. Brown served as vice president of student access and success at Nash Community College.

Before that, he held the role of inaugural provost and vice president of academic affairs, student affairs and workforce innovations at Connecticut State Community College — the largest institution of higher education in New England.

In that capacity, he guided statewide efforts to deliver a high-quality, student-centered learning environment across multiple campuses.

Dr. Brown has also served as the senior vice president and chief academic officer for the North Carolina Community College System and previously spent nearly five years at Vance-Granville Community College as vice president of learning, student engagement and success.

There, he played a pivotal role in shaping academic programming, faculty development, student engagement, and achieving equitable outcomes through a strategic enrollment and student support lens.

Dr. Brown holds a doctorate in education with a concentration in higher education leadership and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication from East Carolina University. He also earned a master’s degree in library science from North Carolina Central University.

“We are honored to welcome Dr. Brown to Halifax Community College,” said HCC President Patrena Benton Elliott. “His expertise and unwavering focus on student achievement and success will be invaluable as we continue advancing our mission to serve the Roanoke Valley and beyond.”
