On August 9, Halifax Community College (HCC) received notification that its nursing department ranks first in the state according to NursingExplorer.com.

NursingExplorer.com gathered data from more than 3,000 nursing schools and ranked 1,721 schools across the country.

The formula uses the National Council Licensure Exam (NCLEX) pass rate and net price to determine the rank, with NCLEX pass rate carrying significantly more weight than price.

“This is great news,” said Dr. Michael Elam, president of HCC. “Our nursing department took on a new attitude last year, and we are seeing the positive results come to fruition. I am extremely proud of our faculty and our students for all of their hard work.”

The HCC nursing department has full classes for each degree program for the 2019-2020 academic year. However, if you would like more information on the program, please contact Kelly Eller, RN, at 252-538-4315 or This email address is being protected from spambots.
