The Halifax Community College Board of Trustees Wednesday appointed Dr. David Forester as acting president through March 31.

The board met in a specially called meeting to discuss the appointment in the wake of the death of the school’s late president Micheal Elam.

Forester has served as the college’s vice president of administrative services/CFO since 2017.

Forester holds a doctorate in organizational leadership from Gardner-Webb University. He obtained a master’s degree in accountancy and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of South Carolina.

He also completed a teacher licensure program in business education at South Carolina State University.

Forester is licensed as a Certified Public Accountant in North Carolina.

Forester’s experience includes working as dean of administrative services/CFO and serving as an interim president at Roanoke-Chowan Community College in Ahoskie.

He has served as chair of the business and entrepreneurship department as well as a business instructor at Haywood Community College in Clyde for more than a decade.

Earlier in his career, he worked as a business education teacher and coached basketball at Roanoke Rapids High School.
