Halifax Community College is preparing the campus for its 2022 commencement exercise.

HCC’s 55th commencement ceremony will take place on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Griffin Centre. 

North Carolina Senator Milton Frederick “Toby” Fitch Jr. will give the commencement address.

The event will take place in person. All are welcome.

“We are proud of our students and are pleased they have written a major chapter in their lives,” said HCC Acting President and VP of Administrative Services/CFO Dr. David Forester. “I’m confident our graduates will make a positive impact as they turn this page.”

A lifelong resident of eastern North Carolina and a Wilson native, Fitch, a Democratic state senator, serves the people of Wilson, Edgecombe and Nash counties. 

He graduated from North Carolina Central University where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1969 and his Juris Doctorate in 1972. 

In 1975, he was admitted to the North Carolina Bar and the District of Columbia Bar. 

Fitch is a retired North Carolina superior court judge, serving from 2002 to 2018. 

He also served in the North Carolina House of Representatives from 1985 to 2001, prior to his time as a judge. 

He has served as a member of the North Carolina Senate  for District 4 since 2018.
