The construction of a new Northampton County Department of Social Services building is moving ahead as funding has now been secured.

He believes Roanoke Rapids has the buildings, tools and people to make the Main Street program work.
On June 10 at 7 p.m,, when officers were called to a residence on Halifax Street in reference to a damaged door, they thought they were answering just another property damage call -- but it was more to it than that.

When Highway 301 was bustling, the building was a restaurant to a now demolished motel where social services used to be. The old motel and the only building that remains as a reminder of the motel was also the first home to Halifax Community College.
