Detective G. Keel learned through further investigation that the child had been assaulted on multiple occasions over several months, Harris said.

Keel charged Nelson with first-degree statutory rape, first-degree statutory sex offense, statutory rape of child under 15 and statutory sex offense with a child by adult.
Due to the nature of the charges, Nelson was initially jailed without the opportunity for bond. In district court today he received a $750,000 secured bond and as of this report remains in the Halifax County Detention Center.
He has another district court date on February 27.
Harris said Keel will be obtaining warrants for possession of a firearm by felon and reviewing other data in this case to determine if additional charges may apply.
Nelson has a 2008 conviction for possession of stolen goods, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving while license revoked.
