Officer assaulted
A man wanted out of Durham County for misdemeanor larceny remains in the Halifax County Detention Center after he assaulted an officer the evening of March 24.
Pablo Barron was taken into custody after Lieutenant L. Melton and Officer A. Way-Young encountered him following an assault call at a business in the 1500 block of Julian R. Allsbrook Highway.
A victim said they were assaulted by a man living in a tent in a wooded area off Country Club Road near a motel.
Davis said Barron was intoxicated and belligerent. He became hostile to the requests of officers.
When he was being placed into a patrol vehicle due to the outstanding order from Durham County he attempted to assault Melton by head-butting him.
He received a $1,000 secured bond and June 4 district court date for assault on a government official and a $1,500 secured bond and April 23 district court date for a hold from Durham County.
Durham County had issued an order for arrest for Barron on February 28 for the December 17 larceny of two cases of beer from a convenience store on Roxboro Road, according to state electronic court records.
Davis said Barron, who is from Texas, had been living in the tent for a couple of months.
