An autopsy is pending in Greenville for a man who fell into Roanoke Rapids Lake while fishing from the bridge in the Thelma Road area.

Eddie Lamont Warren, 39, of Littleton was identified from records removed from his pants pockets after he was retrieved from the water Tuesday morning, according to Major Anzell Harris of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.

Warren was one of two men reported to be fishing from the bridge Monday evening around 8 after deputies responded to a missing person report.

Search teams with watercraft responded to the scene to attempt to locate the missing person. The search was temporarily suspended in the early morning hours Tuesday for safety and visibility concerns.

Around 8 a.m. the search resumed and the man identified as Warren was located just off the bank.

Harris said there were no apparent signs of foul play.
