The Center for Energy Education invites veterans, their families, and community members to its Annual Veterans Day Event on Thursday, November 5, from 10 a.m. to noon at 460 Airport Road in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.

This year's event will feature a keynote address from retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel William “Bill” Garner, a Desert Storm combat veteran who served 24 years in active and reserve military duty.

A native of Parkton, Garner graduated from North Carolina A&T State University as a Distinguished Military Graduate. Throughout his military career, he held several leadership positions, including company commander and inspector general, and served as an instructor at the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College.

Following his military service, Garner built a career in the corporate sector, working with several Fortune 500 companies before retiring in 2025. He has remained active in civic and community organizations, including the NAACP, 100 Black Men, Boys & Girls Clubs, and the YMCA. He currently serves as chairman of the Statesboro Uplift Foundation, continuing his commitment to community leadership and service.

In addition to Garner's keynote address, the Veterans Day event will highlight resources related to veterans' health benefits and employment opportunities.

The gathering will provide an opportunity for veterans, their families, and community members to connect, share experiences, and recognize the contributions of those who have served in the United States Armed Forces.

Lunch will be provided following the event.
