A Roanoke Rapids man was jailed this morning after fleeing when a Halifax County Sheriff’s Office deputy came to West Fifth Street to assist the state Department of Adult Correction serve felony probation violation warrants to him.
Bradley Barnes, 33, was talking with a probation officer when Community Action Team Sergeant G.Q. Martin arrived to assist around 10 a.m.
Barnes fled when Martin got out of his patrol vehicle, according to Major Anzell Harris. He was arrested after a brief foot chase.

Martin found two pieces of paper containing an unknown substance while searching Barnes.
With assistance from the Halifax Regional Drug and Gang Task Force the substance was determined to be fentanyl.
Barnes was arrested and charged with two counts of felony probation violation, felony possession of a schedule II controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and resisting a public officer.
Barnes received a $2,000 cash bond for the probation violations and was jailed without the opportunity for bond on Martin’s charges.
As of this report, there was no further information on the matter filed in eCourts.
