The Roanoke Rapids Police Department recently held a saturated patrol with assistance from other agencies.
Chief Lawrence Wiggins said the assisting agencies were the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, and North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement.
Wiggins said the patrols began on October 17 and continued for an undisclosed period of time within the city limits. "During that enforcement, multiple arrests were made. This is an effort that will be ongoing at random and various times,” he said. “Our commitment is to the safety of the community. These events take time to plan, and this was a concerted effort. I would like to thank the participating agencies, their leaders, and their officers for assisting us and the Roanoke Rapids community.”
Lieutenant Morgan Worrell reported the following statistics from the operation:
2 felony arrests
2 misdemeanor arrests
2 firearms seized
26 grams of marijuana seized
35 citations issued
3 DWI charges
2 charges for carrying a concealed weapon
1 charge for drug paraphernalia
1 charge for reckless driving, failing to heed lights and siren, no operator's license, and excessive speed
2 charges for possession of a firearm by a felon
2 charges for possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana
1 outstanding order for arrest for a probation violation served
“We are so thankful to our local and state partners for helping us in this event,” Worrell said. “Without the support from other agencies, it would not have been possible.”
