The fugitive task force of the United States Marshals Service today located and arrested a man wanted in a shooting death that occurred in Weldon in September 2024.
Major Anzell Harris of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said Dashan Kitrel Taylor was located in New York. Taylor was wanted in the shooting death of Lamar Lashley, which occurred last year in the 900 block of Washington Avenue and had been on the run since then.
A second suspect in this case, Tyquan Tavious Brown, was apprehended last November in Virginia by the task force. “The arrest this morning closes one chapter in this case,” Sheriff Tyree Davis said. “We will be working with the District Attorney’s Office to begin the process of extraditing Taylor back to North Carolina to face charges in this case.”

Taylor and Brown both face first-degree murder charges in the shooting of the 48-year-old Lashley.
At the time of the fatal shooting, Halifax County Central Communications received a call regarding shots fired, and patrol deputies and criminal investigators responded.
Central Communications received additional calls advising that a person later identified as Lashley was lying in the roadway next to a bicycle. Lashley had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
“The sheriff’s office would like to thank the U.S. Marshals Service and their Fugitive Task Force for their assistance in locating and apprehending both suspects in this case,” Davis said. “It would be very difficult to bring closure to these cases without the great working relationships that have been developed with our various federal law enforcement partners.”
