Drivers on Highway 48 will encounter a detour next week so state highway workers can replace two aging drainage pipes under the highway.

The closure to through traffic between Justice Branch and Wright roads outside the Aurelian Springs community will begin at 7 a.m. Monday. The work is expected to be completed by January 16, weather permitting.

The detour will consist of Justice Branch, Aurelian Springs and Hawkins Chapel roads.

Drivers should allow extra travel time and use caution near the work zone.

The specific detours are as follows:

If traveling north bound, drivers should turn right on Justice Branch Road then left on Aurelian Springs Road, then left on Hawkins Chapel Road to reach Highway 48. 

If traveling south bound, drivers should turn left on Hawkins Chapel Road then right on Aurelian Springs Road, then right on Justice Branch Road to reach Highway 48.
