Roanoke Valley law enforcement reported the following:
Cocaine arrest
Major Anzell Harris said Halifax County Sheriff’s Office Deputy D. Bybee conducted a traffic stop in the 1300 block of Thelma Road Friday around 9 p.m.
Bybee contacted Sergeant N. Estes, who arrived with his canine deputy, Rocko. Rocko gave a positive alert on the vehicle occupied by 35-year-old Sarah Spivey, and cocaine and drug paraphernalia were seized.
Spivey, a Roanoke Rapids resident, was arrested and charged with possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
She has an April 15 district court date.
Felon in possession of a weapon
Northampton County Sheriff’s Office Chief Detective Ashley Collier reported that on March 17, narcotics detectives conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by 26-year-old Sceva Jovan Kendall of Pleasant Hill.
The vehicle had an expired registration and no insurance.
Collier said that Kendall stated he did not have a valid driver’s license. Deputies detected a strong odor of marijuana, and Kendall gave consent to search the vehicle.
During the search, deputies located marijuana paraphernalia.
A search of the immediate area around the stop off Highway 301 in Garysburg resulted in the discovery of a Glock handgun. Based on the condition of the firearm and ground conditions, deputies believe it had been recently discarded.
Further investigation confirmed Kendall is a convicted felon and prohibited from possessing a firearm.
He was taken into custody and charged with felony possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
According to court documents, Kendall was sentenced in 2017 to 12 months of house arrest for felony breaking and entering.
He is scheduled for an April 13 disposition hearing in Northampton County District Court.
