Roanoke Rapids City Manager Paul Sabiston said he plans to recommend property-liability and employee healthcare insurance by council’s June 8 meeting.
The city manager told council at its work session tonight staff is still reviewing proposals and the brokers being considered will meet with representative employee groups Thursday at 1:30 p.m.
Different this year in the property insurance will be the insurance must cover the Roanoke Rapids Theatre because it was previously the responsibility of the tenant, Sabiston noted in a memo on the matter.
Meanwhile, city council could be ready to vote on changes to its nuisance ordinance by next Tuesday’s meeting.
Many of the regulations in the ordinance date to 1970s and many things have changed like dilapidated fences devaluing property and the way people stack lumber.
Many of the changes in the proposed ordinance were sparked by Opportunity Clean Sweep.
While there are no significant changes, the proposed document tries to make things more clear, Planning and Development Director Amanda Jarratt has said. One of the changes addresses outbuildings 144 square feet or smaller, which before the city had to go through the minimum housing process to have them demolished. Under the proposal, these buildings would be covered in the nuisance ordinance.
