Three people were allegedly caught trying to rob a Weldon warehouse of copper wiring Tuesday, according to the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.

On June 15 the owners of the building off Julian R. Allsbrook Highway reported a break-in and theft, Detective Doug Pilgreen said.

On Tuesday Deputy Justin Matthews responded to the building after receiving a repot people were inside.

He discovered three men in the warehouse with a truck and portable lift.

Investigation sparked by the deputy’s response and further investigation by Pilgreen and Detective Roy Rooks resulted in the arrests of three people from the Louisburg area.

The men — David Nathaniel Hardy, 41; Stephen Lovon Barnett, 49; and Terry Maurice Green, 40 — were charged with two counts of breaking and entering, one count of felony larceny, one count of injury to real property and one count of attempted larceny.

Some $10,000 worth of wiring was stolen between May 20 and June 15, Pilgreen said.

All three men were placed under $30,000 bonds and have August 18 court dates.
