naomi%204[1]On Thursday, June 24, five 4-Hers from Halifax County participated in the Northeast District Activity Day held at Nash Community College. 

More than 200 4-Hers from the district gave presentations on the topic of their choice. 

Youth in the 4-H Presentation Contest prepare and deliver a 5-12 minute demonstration, illustrated talk, or creative performance for an audience and panel of three expert judges. 

Naomi Hazelton, a member of the Scotland Neck 4-H Club, was Halifax’s youngest participant.  Hazelton was one of approximately 50 “Cloverbuds” that gave presentations in a non-competitive setting. Hazelton’s presentation on “Egg”citing Eggs won the judges over.

Jesse Richardson won silver with his presentation on solar power in the Electric Category for 11-13 year olds.  Kyle Richardson won bronze for his presentation in the Livestock Category on goat care in the 11-13 age division.  Both brothers are members of the Hollister Hay Handlers 4-H Club. 

Cooper Aycock, a member of the Huckleberry Swamp 4-H Club, won gold for his presentation on rain barrels in 9-10 age group for Soil, Water and the Environment.  Lynley Liles won gold in the 9-10 division of Forestry and Wildlife for her presentation on red wolves.  Liles is a member of the Tuff Riders 4-H Club.  Jesse Richardson, Cooper Aycock and Lynley Liles all qualify to compete at the state level during 4-H Congress July 20th in Raleigh.

Throughout the processes 4-Her’s gained skills including research, goal-setting, organization and oral presentation as well as increase knowledge in one of 38 subject-matter areas sponsored by the program.
