Southeast Halifax High School and Enfield Middle School were two of the 25 lowest performing schools in the state to share more than $65.4 million in federal school improvement grants over the next three years to improve student achievement.

WRAL reported this morning Enfield Middle School will receive $2,083,148 while Southeast will receive $2,909,148.

The federal funds were awarded by formula to states, which then made competitive grants available to school districts.

The expected reforms are large in scale and the money can in no way be used to fill in state revenue holes, WRAL reported.

No further information was immediately available.
