John Fleming of Halifax has been selected as a winner in the America’s Farmers Grow Communities program, which gives farmers the opportunity to win $2,500 for their favorite local nonprofit organizations. The awards are available through Monsanto Fund. Fleming has designated the Halifax County 4-H to receive the award.
Fleming has a special connection to the Halifax County 4-H — his wife, Kathleen, is the assistant extension agent and is very involved with 4-H youth development. “It’s a great organization and really benefits the youth in this county,” he says.
“I had heard of this program and was very excited to learn that my husband was the winner for this county,” says Kathleen. “The award will be beneficial for our members and our volunteers.”
The $2,500 donation was awarded at a ceremony held September 25 at the 4-H Horse and Livestock Arena.
In its initial year, the America’s Farmers Grow Communities program has provided nearly 500 farmers in 10 states with $2,500 awards to direct to their favorite nonprofit organization.
