A Roanoke Rapids man was charged Saturday for spitting in an officer’s face after he was apprehended for driving a four-wheeler while allegedly impaired.

Roanoke Rapids Police Department Captain Andy Jackson said Officer T.L. Mason spotted Devin Devon Davis operating the all terrain vehicle at a high rate of speed on Hamilton Street.

Mason caught up with the 22-year-old man on Emry Street. Davis appeared to be intoxicated and was taken to the police station and charged with DWI and driving while license revoked.

When Davis allegedly spit in Mason’s face, Lieutenant Barry Evans charged him with felony malicious conduct by a prisoner. His bond was upped from $1,000 to $5,000 for allegedly spitting on the officer.
