A 77-year-old Seaboard woman died in a three-vehicle crash on Highway 186 Wednesday night.
Trooper J.D. Warren of the state Highway Patrol said the wreck occurred around 6:30 p.m. when Frances Brooks attempted to pass a car on the highway.
She met an oncoming tractor-trailer whose driver tried to avoid the collision but sideswiped Brooks’ Ford Taurus, sending it back into the vehicle she was attempting to pass.
All three vehicles went off the roadway and Brooks was pronounced dead at Halifax Regional Medical Center.
The driver of the truck was sent to Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville but did not sustain life threatening injuries.The driver of the car Brooks passed was treated and released at Halifax Regional.
