The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office reported the following crimes over the weekend:
On Friday around 10 p.m. Deputy Brian Knight was in the area of Arcola Road on patrol along with Deputy Obert Wiltsie when they stopped a vehicle that they noticed had a open container in it. The occupant, Jason Brake, 31, of Hollister, was charged with simple possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and open container. Deputy Knight cited Brake on a citation and gave him a March 28 court date.
On Friday around 9:13 p.m. officers were dispatched to Three Flags in the county area of Weldon about an assault that occurred in the store. Deputy Samuel Page arrived at the store and talked with Rodney Brown 38, of Weldon, and the store owners.
Through further investigation Lieutenant Neil Aycock learned Brown had become upset with the store owners and punched the cash register causing damage. The store owners attempted to stop the subject from leaving and Brown pulled a knife out. During the struggle one of the store owners was cut on the hand. Deputy Page charged Brown with assault with a deadly weapon and placed him in the Halifax County Jail with a March 14 court date. The Weldon Police Department assisted.
On Saturday around 1:55 a.m. Knight and Wiltsie stopped a vehicle for a speeding violation in the area of Highway 301 in Enfield. The officers talked to Timothy Marrow 29, of Enfield. Upon further investigation a gun was recovered concealed between the drivers seat and passengers seat. Marrow was charged with carrying a concealed weapon by Deputy Knight and placed under a $500 bond with a March 2 court date.
On Saturday around 5:10 a.m. Wiltsie stopped a vehicle on Highway 158 near Stephens Street for failing to stop for a stop light. Deputy Page assisted Deputy Wiltsie with the stop of Nathaniel Martin 19, of Weldon. Upon stopping the car and talking to Martin, the odor of marijuana was detected by the officers. The officers found marijuana in the car. Deputy Wiltsie citied Martin for possession of marijuana and failure to stop for a red light. Martin has a court date of March 14.
On Sunday around 12:08 a.m. Page and Wiltsie were checking vehicles in the area of Highway 48 near Adcock Road when Deputy Page saw Oscar Hendricks 51, from the Enfield area. Deputy Page had Hendricks pull his vehicle to the side of the road for an investigative stop. Upon checking Hendricks further a crack pipe and crack cocaine were discovered. Deputy Page charged Hendricks with possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia. Deputy Page arrested Hendricks and transported him to the magistrate where he was placed under a $2,000 bond with a March 23 court date.
