An Edgecombe County man was charged by the Halifax County Sheriff's Office last week following an investigation into a plumbing and septic repair scam.
Gary Michael Scott, 27, turned himself in to Edgecombe County authorities following the investigation by Detective Joe Puhak of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office.
Scott faces five counts of obtaining property by false pretense and one count of fail to work after being paid, Detective Joe Sealey said in a news release.
Lieutenant Bobby Martin of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office said the case, in which investigation began in November, involved Scott allegedly charging the customer for work which was not done and for materials which were never used.
Sealey said Puhak's investigation showed the victim was defrauded out of approximately $10,000
The conclusion of this case came about through the efforts of the sheriff’s office,Halifax County Environmental Health and Planning and Development officials and the North Carolina Board of Plumbing, Heating and Fire Sprinkler Contractors.
Scott’s first court date is June 29 and he has a $25,000 bond.
