A Maryland couple was arrested today after they allegedly snatched and ran with a lottery display containing $3,600 worth of tickets.
Detective Tyree Davis of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office said the theft occurred shortly before 8 at the Oasis at the intersection of Highway 903 and Interstate 95.

Rainey, left, and Jones.
Deputy Emerson Carroll got descriptions of the people who allegedly committed the crime — Christopher Lee Rainey and Megan Elizabeth Jones — and got a description of the vehicle they were in.
Sometime after the theft the pair allegedly sold a couple of the tickets, a crime which the Northampton County Sheriff's Office is investigating, Davis said.
Carroll requested the Halifax County 911 Center put out be on the lookout notifications on the pair. The notice led to their arrests in Sussex County, Virginia, by the sheriff's department there, Davis said.
The tickets were still in the car and Rainey, 28, and Jones, 23, both of Forest Hills, were charged with felony larceny and jailed on $20,000 bonds. They have June 7 court dates and additional investigation is ongoing.
The be on the lookout notification was crucial, Carroll said in a press release. “The quick actions of the telecommunicators at the Halifax County 911 Center played a key part in capturing the offenders.”
