A Roanoke Rapids boy was arrested Sunday on charges he allegedly stole scrap metal from the Carolina Rest Home Road and Highway 48 area.

Detective James Matthews said Deputy C.E. Carroll of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office took a report earlier and obtained warrants for the arrest of Daniel Hunter Floyd, 17.

On Sunday, an off duty officer spotted him getting gas and called to report he was seen.

Further investigation led to Floyd's arrest by Deputy H. Phillips in the South Rosemary area.

He was charged on Carroll's warrants of felony larceny, possession of stolen goods and property, conspiracy to commit larceny and obtaining property by false pretense.

Floyd was put under a $5,000 bond and placed in the Halifax County Jail. Floyd has a court date in Halifax District Court on August 3.

The property was disposed of, Matthews said.
