Deputies and investigators of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office have identified two suspects in the murder of a 21-year-old Weldon resident James Anthony Lee Jr.

Lee, a delivery driver for Domino's Pizza in Roanoke Rapids, was shot to death on Branch Avenue outside Roanoke Rapids early this morning.

In a statement this evening Tripp said, “Investigators have continuously worked this case and are close to the  apprehension and arrest of these individuals.”

Tripp said this evening the suspects are local.

Other than confirming the two are local, Tripp declined comment on how the suspects were developed and declined to immediately release their names.

Domino’s corporate officials have announced a $5,000 reward for information which leads to the arrest and conviction of persons involved in the shooting death.

Tripp said earlier today his office is in the process of seeking the same amount from the governor’s office.

Robbery appears to be the motive in the shooting death.

Lee was robbed of the pizza he was set to deliver at Branch Avenue as well as the money bag he carried.

Lee was shot while inside his car. There was more than one shot fired at him from an undisclosed type of weapon.

Lee was out for a delivery but hadn’t checked with his employer for some time, causing concern.

It was Lee’s employer who found him in the Branch Avenue area.

The employer notified law enforcement shortly before 1 a.m.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the sheriff’s office at 252-583-8201 or Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
