A Friday traffic stop on Interstate 95 resulted in the seizure of trafficking amounts of heroin, according to the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.
Lieutenant Doug Pilgreen said Corporal C.E. Carroll was on the interstate when he allegedly observed a traffic violation.
Carroll stopped the vehicle and observed undisclosed signs that something else was wrong, Pilgreen said.
With assistance from Sergeant Greg Richardson and Deputy Jason Keeter and his dog Broady, trafficking amounts of heroin were allegedly found.
Pilgreen said the exact amount was unknown. In North Carolina the trafficking threshold for heroin is 28 grams or more. It was not clear where in the vehicle the heroin was found.

Beamon, left, and Williamson.
Pilgreen said the two people in the vehicle, 23-year-old Kevin Beamon Jr. of Fayetteville and 25-year-old Akeem Williamson of Greenville, had been out of state. It was not clear about their destination.
They were each charged with trafficking heroin and jailed on $50,000 bonds. They have September 26 court dates.
