Not even finishing repairs from a month ago, Chris Moseley now finds himself faced with more damage from a torrential rainstorm which left 8 inches of water inside the building on 12th Street he is moving his electrical business into.
Moseley, who has been running his business from his home the past 14 years, was ready to make the move into the former R.H. Williams Roofing Company building.
While this is the second time in a month he has had to contend with flooding, he hasn’t yet given up on relocating, he said as contractors began drying carpeting and surveying wall damage from waters that flowed 48 feet into his building.
“I haven’t officially moved in,” Moseley said, when asked about any equipment damage. “It’s more the carpet and walls.”
From talking with Roanoke Rapids Public Works Director Larry Chalker, Moseley said the storm water system couldn’t keep the ferocity of the pounding morning rains in check. “I’m going to have to wait and see what the city can do.”
Moseley said the building became flooded within 20 minutes. He estimates it will cost $5,000 to $7,000 to repair the damage. “We haven’t even completed the repairs,” from the last time. “I don’t know if we can salvage the carpet this time.”
Chalker could not be reached immediately for further comment.
