Carter was arrested in the case.

Family members told Roanoke Rapids Police that Jeremy East, 25, sustained a shattered jaw, damage to his sinus cavity and has a bullet resting next to his spine, Major Tommy Hathaway said this morning.

Early this morning police arrested Michael D’Angelo Carter, 38, for attempted murder and conspiracy. They are looking for Terrance Moody, who faces the same charges.

Carter was jailed on $100,000 bond and has a May 29 court date.

All three men were acquainted with one another, Hathaway said, and the shooting appears to have resulted from an ongoing dispute between the three. Hathaway did not know the nature of the dispute.

The shooting occurred shortly 7:30 p.m. outside East’s residence at 124 Wilkins Street. Responding officers found he was shot in the head and laying in the front yard. He was airlifted to Duke.

Hathaway said witnesses observed multiple handguns. East was armed but never fired a shot. Hathaway said it is not clear who fired the shot that critically injured East. It is not clear how many shots were fired.

Moody frequents the Roanoke Rapids area and anyone with information on his whereabouts is encouraged to call the police department at 252-533-2810 or Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
