Texas has been in Roanoke Rapids for 15 years and now it’s getting a makeover.
The remodeling of the restaurant off Julian R. Allsbrook Highway is the result of customer feedback, said Mellissa Hand, general manager. “They like the service and the food. We wanted to give people a fresh place to eat at.”
The sweeping remodeling goes from the outside to inside and even includes restrooms. Tables have been refinished, new carpeting has been installed and the bar was remodeled.
New paintings have been put up that are more subdued but still carry the Texas theme throughout, said Doug Sanderson, vice president of training and human resources.
To celebrate the remodeling, the restaurant is promoting limited time offers, Hand said, and an 11 a.m. ribbon-cutting will be held on May 13.
The Roanoke Rapids restaurant is the first of 19 in the state to get a makeover, Hand said, an honor bestowed on the eatery because of its community involvement.

The remodeled bar offers more space and includes three new televisions. At the tap are featured beers from North Carolina — currently Natty Greene pale and Natty Greene Buckshot; Shotgun Betty and Sweet Josie; and Carolina Blonde. “It’s great,” Hand said. “We wanted to try it because there are not a lot of places here that have North Carolina beers.”
The new televisions, Sanderson said, will allow the airing of the NFL Sunday Ticket package.
Texas Manager Krista Santoro is pleased with the renovations. “It’s great to work with someone like Mellissa and be a part of the renovations at Texas.”
