The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Bobby Martin:

The department is asking for assistance in a theft which occurred September 6 at Walmart shortly before 1 a.m.

Three people entered the store and took items.

One person reached into the beer cooler and removed two Busch Light 16-ounce cans out of a four-pack. 

The man placed the beers in his pants pockets while in the store.

A woman took a Coors Light can and placed it in her left front pocket. She also took a pink T-shirt.

Another man kept looking around and scanning the area as his friends took beer from the cooler. 

He also walked ahead of them scanning the store as they exited.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the police department at 252-533-2810 or Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.

 

Wednesday shortly before 12:30 p.m., Officer H. Marshall responded to a theft call at Belk.

Marshall talked with loss prevention and learned the suspect was still in the store. 

Through further investigation Marshall learned the person was an employee named Kristen Howard, 23, of the Roanoke Rapids area.

Socks, shoes and a necklace were stolen from the business. 

Howard was arrested and brought before a magistrate where she was charged with larceny by employee. She received a $5,000 bond and October 2 court date.

 

Tuesday at approximately 12:45 p.m., Pace Team Officer J. DeSare was patrolling in the area of the 300 block of Franklin Street after receiving information about a possible fight.

While he didn’t locate a fight, he noticed suspicious activity and investigated further.

DeSare noticed a truck stop in the area where the police department has received numerous complaints about narcotics activity.

The officer stopped the vehicle to talk with the occupants. He detected the strong odor of marijuana. 

Officer D. Newsome arrived to assist.

The officers located a Mason jar wrapped up in a plastic bag located under the back passenger seat.

Susan Ivey had marijuana in her possession.

The driver was identified as Franklin Shearin, 74, from the Roanoke Rapids area.

Shearin was charged with felony possession of schedule VI, felony possession with intent to sell and deliver schedule VI, and felony maintaining a dwelling/vehicle for a controlled substance.

He received a $5,000 bond and October 21 court date.

Ivey, 51, of the Roanoke Rapids area, was charged with simple possession.

She received a $5,000 bond and the same court date as Shearin.
