The Weldon Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Chris Davis:

On August 8 shortly before 1 p.m., Davis responded to the 200 block of East Second Street on a report of fraudulent activities by employees.

Two employees removed items without paying and took an undisclosed amount of money throughout a period of time.

Davis collected the available evidence and Sergeant T. Mason determined the employees reportedly involved were Maranda Becker, 26, of Roanoke Rapids, and Sekethia Alston, 36, of Weldon.

Mason obtained a warrant for obtaining property by false pretense against the pair.

Becker was arrested September 1 by the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office and received a $2,000 unsecured bond with an October 2 court date.

Alston was arrested September 14 by Officer S. McKimmey and received a $2,500 unsecured bond with the same court date as Becker.

Sunday shortly before 10:15 p.m., Officer N. Coles responded to the 100 block of East Second Street about a person at the residence refusing to leave.

Coles determined  Jeremiah Mangum Jr., 30, of Rich Square, was wanted out of Maryland for larceny.

Coles placed Mangum under arrest and he was taken before a magistrate.

Mangum received a fugitive warrant without opportunity for bond and has a September 24 court date.
