Roanoke Rapids Police Chief Thomas Hathaway confirmed this evening the alleged suspect in the Roanoke Rapids Savings Bank robbery was captured in Camden County, along with an alleged accomplice.

WAVY TV in Norfolk reported Thursday the alleged suspects, Athena Lau Yancey, 31, and 24-year-old Jesse Lee Baker were arrested by the Camden County Sheriff's Office following a call about an armed robbery at the Towne Bank of Currituck on Highway 158. The call came in shortly before 5 p.m.

The TV station reported an armed woman wearing a wig passed a note demanding money and then fled the bank.

The woman was located hiding in a boat behind a dry dock boat repair facility. She reportedly had the cash with her when Camden County deputies found her.

Yancey faces a charge of robbery with a dangerous weapon while Baker, who was reportedly driving a getaway car, was charged with aid and abet robbery with a dangerous weapon.

They were jailed on $350,000 bonds.

Hathaway said Roanoke Rapids detectives will travel to Camden County Saturday. She will at least face a charge of robbery with a dangerous weapon. The police department will investigate any alleged role that Baker may have played in the Roanoke Rapids robbery.
